Sale! Accidental Enchantments – Volume 2

I am pleased and excited to announce that the second installment of my series of fairy tale retellings has sold! Edits start in just a few weeks.

The tentative title is Face in the Magic Mirror, and it is a reimagining of the Snow White story. I don’t know yet if the title will change. It tells the story of that mysterious being within the magic mirror, how he came to be there, and why he finds the queen so lovely. It is also about the queen’s stepdaughter, and the problems extreme beauty might cause.

But mostly, it is about a young woman with achondroplasia who has never seen another person like herself, and who hears of a refuge for dwarfs. She travels to the refuge in a blatant search for a husband, but none of the men there are quite what she hoped for.

She thinks.

The Sevenfold SpellThis story was actually the inspiration for the whole Accidental Enchantments theme. I imagined this man in the mirror, on the run from the queen, bringing unintentional doom to people every time he is forced to respond to her questions. I couldn’t make the story work so I wrote The Sevenfold Spell, instead. And last year, when I started writing Magic Mirror again, it just flowed from start to finish. It’s funny how these things work out.

If you haven’t read The Sevenfold Spell yet, you can always — ahem — check it out now. πŸ˜‰

  1. This sounds amazing. πŸ™‚ That’s awesome that everything flowed when you picked it up again. Guess writing Sevenfold Spell gave your subconscious a chance to do some work.

    I finally read Once Upon a Gass Tank, and I really enjoyed it. I like the relationship between the brothers, especially how responcable the older brother feels for his younger brother. (Sorry, I’m bad with names. I was going to look them up but my Nook is taking forever to load.) The way the mother’s sickness puts so much extra pressure on the whole family feels very real.

    • Thank you, Chic! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. The second episode is now — ahem — available for the Nook. There’s a link on the sidebar. I meant to announce it today, but my editor notified me that edits were coming so I decided to announce this instead. This way, I can blog about edits!

      Nice to have more than one thing to announce, I suppose!

  2. This does sound like an interesting one. I’m glad it decided to co-operate finally. {SMILE}

    It sounds like with Accidental Enchantments, whichever story you aren’t tryijng to work on is the one that flows. First you meant to write this one, and out popped “The Sevenfold Spell.” Then if I remember right, you were working on a Cinderella, and out came this one. So now I wonder both what you’ll try to write next, and what will actually pop out. {SMILE}

    • I deliberately set the Cinderella aside in order to write this one, because I was stuck so badly with Cindy. I am trying to whip that story into shape, though. It was actually mostly done.

      • When writer’s block gets bad enough, moving to a different project can be the best thing you can do. At least that’s what I’ve found. {Smile}

        I hope Cindy flows better for you now, but if she doesn’t, move on to something else. Sooner or later, I’m sure she’ll give up and cooperate again. The trick is to keep busy until she’s ready. {wink, Smile}
