Why I Wrote The Magic Mirror and the Seventh Dwarf
The premise of the prince as the face in the magic mirror was actually the first Accidental Enchantments concept I came up with. I wrote a scene of Richard rushing to warn an ambassador of the evil queen’s plot against him, and arriving too late. Although that scene was quite exciting, the rest of the story stalled. Fortunately, it inspired another story which became The Sevenfold Spell. When I decided to try another fairy tale, I came back to this one.
Since The Sevenfold Spell turned out to almost be two romances in one, I decided to have two distinct romances in my Snow White story. And since the whole idea is to take the point-of-view of one of the bystanders from the original fairy tale, I decided to make a heroine out of one of the dwarfs.
But first, I had to come up with my heroine. To get to know Gretchen, I wrote the scene that is now the first scene from Gretchen’s point-of-view. I fell in love with her, fell even harder for my feisty farmhand, Lars, and I started to write. It took six months.
